GRAND CAYMAN - SUNSET HOUSE - NEWSLETTERS
July 2000
---------------------------------------------------------------------- Originally announced for September 2000 we have changed the sinking of the Mermaid Sculpture to OCTOBER 7th - 2000. This change is to help all of you that were having a difficult time deciding if you should be here for the sinking or for Fin Fair, NOW YOU CAN DO BOTH ON THE SAME TRIP! More information on Fin Fair is listed in the next section. October 07, 2000 marks the placement of Grand Caymans 1st underwater sculpture. Sunset House will be placing a 9 foot tall bronze mermaid just off-shore in front of the hotel. The mermaid was created by Canadian Artist Simon Morris who will also be present for the event. This is also your chance to meet Jean-Michele Cousteau. Jean-Michele will be at Sunset House for Fin Fair and the sinking of the Mermaid. The mermaid will be in about 50FSW and will be visible for divers and non-divers alike. You can see the sculpture on our website and it should be on the resort property in September for viewing before it is placed off-shore. So please join us for what promises to be a very exciting week. Be sure to book your room for the placement of the mermaid soon. Watch the website for more updates as the big day approaches. http://www.sunsethouse.com
---------------------------------------------------------------------- With fin Fair appearances by the Kinleys, David Kersh and Shannon Brown behind us, the excitement is growing as we move towards the performances by the Wilkinson's and Matt King on October 07 at Sunset House. To make it the ultimate week in Cayman we have combined Fin Fair with the placement of the mermaid and the scheduled appearance of Jean-Michele Cousteau. How fun is that?! Jean-Michele was recently in Nashville, TN as part of the annual celebration Fan Fair. He wasn't there to sing but he was there to promote FIN FAIR in the Cayman Islands with the Wilkinson's. As an added bonus the Wilkinson's booth at fan Fair, which was shared with Ocean Futures, took first place out of 87 entries for presentation. Way to go guys!! Watch the website for updates and more information. Room rates for Fin Fair are now posted on the site. http://www.sunsethouse.com
---------------------------------------------------------------------- In the Summer of 1999 Sunset Divers started offering the Bubble Maker program. This program is designed for kids that want to learn how to SCUBA dive. Now you can come on a diving vacation, with your kids. In May 1999 Sunset Divers started offering Nitrox fills and training and today we have 100 dedicated Nitrox tanks available for rental and the staff are very Nitrox savvy. In October 1999 Sunset Divers started developing support and training for the Draeger Dolphin Rebreathers. Today we have 2 rebreathers available for training and rental, a bunch of Rebreather Instructors on staff, and we have a complete support system for anyone that would like to bring their own unit down to Sunset House. In February 2000 Sunset Divers became the 1st facility in The Cayman Islands to offer Closed Circuit Rebreather Training on the Buddy Inspiration Rebreather. Sales and training are now available for anyone interested. During this time our entire staff have been working on various levels of IANTD certifications from Nitrox to Trimix. Sunset Divers now offers complete IANTD Diver Instructor and Instructor Trainer certification. As of July 2000 Sunset Divers has completed a crossover for all of the staff to include TDI and SDI certifications. Sunset Divers now offers complete TDI/SDI Diver, Instructor and Instructor Trainer certification. Finally, in the next couple of months Sunset Divers will start offering an Advanced boat that will allow diving within certification. This means anyone that is certified will be allowed to dive within their certification limits. Watch our website for more details. What's our point you may ask? Our motto is "Sunset House - Grand Cayman's #1 Hotel - Built FOR Divers BY Divers". We're just carrying on the tradition. Watch our website for details on each of our new developments.
---------------------------------------------------------------------- In June Bret Gilliam, president of TDI/SDI came to Sunset House to present Grand Caymans only showing of the IMAX film - ISLAND OF THE SHARKS. Approximately 200 people showed up to view the presentation. Mr. Gilliam captivated the audience with a 45 minute behind the scenes slide show of what it was like to be a part of the filming, and some of the equipment that was used to make this amazing film. Finally in the dark of the night, out on the patio of "My BAR" an 8'x8' scene with a fantastic sounds system played a master video copy of the IMAX presentation. The event was a great success and those that were here for the presentation had a great time. Special thanks to Mr. Gilliam for his time and effort.
