From: Habitat Curacao-The Freedom Journal Hi Phil,
Check out our great new contest!
THE "FREEDOM JOURNAL"
TALES FROM OUR SHORE
Photo Pro Chris has yet another pet seahorse out front. Only this one's belly seemed
to be expanding?! Everyday Chris would watch as the bright orange little guy ate lots of
floating larva and got bigger and bigger until March 22nd when he suddenly regained his
svelte figure and became a proud parent! While Chris managed to capture both Mom and Dad
on film together during this time he hasn't seen the babies yet. They're probably hidden
safely away until they get a bit older. The almost daily dolphin sightings continue along
the drop-off but one morning one of the fins didn't bob up and down like the others, it
stayed at the same level as they cruised by. Hmm? And snorkelers haven't missed a thing
either because all this is happening in less than 20 feet of water only a few kicks off
the dock!
NEW MILLENNIUM CONTEST
Finally breaking a winning streak of readers from the state of Texas, neighbor island
Bonaire resident Jake Richter was the first to correctly identify the Orange Cup Coral
described in March's riddle and won a Habitat Curacao t-shirt. Normally we mail it to the
winner, but this time we just swam it over. Only kidding! Don't despair if you guess
correctly each month but never quite make the pole position because from now until
December 31st 1999, EVERY correct guess each month (1 per person) will be entered into a
draw to win a week of accommodation and unlimited diving FREE compliments of Habitat
Curacao and Maduro Dive Fanta-Seas. And the first correct guess will not only win a stylish
Habitat Curacao t-shirt, but will also earn TWO entries into the draw! The draw will be held
at the stroke of midnight here at our Sharky's Restaurant during our Millennium New Year's
Eve bash, and the winner will be announced in the January 2000 issue of the "Freedom Journal."
Have fun, and Good Luck!
"Up north my surname is a claim to fame.
With my Caribbean cousin, that's also the same.
But me, they say I look like a shoe!
I have two first names, and either will do."

GET TO KNOW US
It isn't only diving where our smiling instructor Conni Pueschel appreciates freedom, its
something that's been a driving force in her life. Born and raised in Dresden, Germany, Conni
left the former eastern block country in 1988 seeking for her and her young son "the
possibility to see everything, do everything, and make all their dreams come true." Working
as a pastry chef she then spent two years in West Germany, two years in Holland (first
learning to dive and then earning a divemaster rating in chose chilly waters), and moved to
sunny Curacao in 1993 where she became a PDIC Instructor and a PADI Instructor shortly
thereafter. This lady loves to teach! Everyday she gets excited about showing people the
underwater world for the first time. "This is something everybody should see. You must try
it. You must try everything in your life" she says. When she's not diving Conni loves to
relax with a good book "read, read, read", tend to her garden, or go horseback riding. She
can't pick just one favorite divesite, saying instead that the entire western end of Curacao
is her favorite because it's "quiet, the reefs are in perfect condition, and there are lots
of colorful fish."

AS THE BOAT FLOATS
As always, a big Thank You to all the terrific people who spent time with us this March.
Repeat visitors included Name the House Reef Contest winner Mark Cedar who spent plenty of
underwater time diving "Nos Kas", and a group from Aquarius Dive Shop who returned to
dedicate "Sister Rose's Reef" to a dearly departed friend. The "Leapin' Lizards" ladies added
Habitat Curacao to their impressive list of destinations dove as did a group from Pan Aqua of
New York. Conni was kept busy teaching and Mike and Chris were kept busy pumping as many people took advantage of our "Go Green Nitrox Week" over the St.Patrick's Day week and enjoyed 1/2 price Nitrox. Hope Conni, Mike, and Chris are well rested because we're doing it again for the whole month of September! Congratulations to the three candidates who successfully completed the PADI Instructor Course and the six who also earned their Medic First Aid Instructor rating here last month.
Speaking of PADI courses, our GM Albert's two sons Darryl and Christopher have become "Scuba
Ambassadors" telling everyone how much fun diving is after they completed the new Bubble
Maker course for 8-12 year olds and went scuba diving in the pool!
