Hi Phil,

In addition to August Photo Month, Sept. Nitrox Month, and 2 Coral Spawning Events this year, don't forget you have a chance to win a week here next year! Each month our riddle gives another opportunity. Good Luck and Happy Diving!

COMINGS & GOINGS

Some of your favorite Habitat Curacao divestaff racked up a few frequent flier miles this past month as Photo Pro Chris jetted off to jolly ol' England to celebrate his Father's 70th Birthday, and Divemaster Cecil made his FIRST EVER trip to the United States! After spending 2 weeks in Denver, Colorado we're not sure he'll ever be the same again. We even have photos of him in the snow! You don't think he's planning to leave us to become a ski instructor now do you? And we're going to miss the smiling face of Diveshop Sales Assistant Merari Karel, who has been with Habitat since opening day, and is leaving to attend college. In her place we welcome Saina Zichem.

SURVEY SCENE

Our representatives at Maduro Dive Fanta-Seas are a curious bunch. This month they've enlisted the help of The Freedom Journal to conduct a little survey: How Did You First Hear of Habitat Curacao? Was it recommended by a friend, your local diveshop, a dive travel specialist, the internet? Or perhaps you heard of us through our sister resort, the well-loved Capt. Don's Habitat on Bonaire? With readers from Peru to Poland, and New Zealand to New York, the results should be very interesting. If you have a minute, let us know at divecuracao@habitatdiveresorts.com. Thanks.

CONTEST TIME CONTINUES...

After many months of always guessing correctly but never quite making the pole position, long time Freedom Journal fan Shelley Kirkpatrick of Cresson, PA was the lucky winner in May by being the first to correctly identify the Flounder described in May's little Shakespearean riddle. She's now proudly wearing her new Habitat Curacao t-shirt and has earned TWO entries into the draw to win a week of accommodation and diving here in the year 2000. 117 other lucky people also guessed correctly and have earned ONE entry into the draw, which will be held at the stroke of midnight Dec 31st 1999 right here during our Millennium News Years Eve Party. Here's your chance to win:

"It's not that often I'm seen in the day, night-time is when I come out to play. Slip and slide, first narrow then wide. Once I've grabbed dinner, I've got it made, and return to my 'garden in the shade'."

Who am I?

Send your guess to divecuracao@habitatdiveresorts.com

Good Luck!

GET TO KNOW US

After a day of diving, everyone naturally gravitates to our Sharky's Bar & Restaurant to swap stories, relax, and unwind with a cool cocktail and spicy snacks. The driving force behind the great music, smiling service, and festive atmosphere of Sharky's is Food & Beverage Manager Marcel Macare who took over the restaurant this past November. Born and raised here in sunny Curacao Marcel worked and studied for 4 years at the Bushiri Beach Hotel School in Aruba and then moved to Holland where he graduated from the Higher Hotel School in The Hague in 1991. For 7 years he was a Food & Beverage Manager with the prestigious Golden Tulip Organization until returning to Curacao specifically to join Habitat Curacao. Not one to rest on his laurels, Marcel is constantly adding new snacks, wines, specialty menu items, and loves to arrange special BBQ's, beach parties, and extended Happy Hours for groups. In fact, Sharky's Sunday Happy Hour with live music by Rudy Emerencia is fast becoming one of the most popular Sunday outings for Curacao residents who venture out to the quiet nearby beaches here on the western end of the island. Planning a Birthday Party, Surprise Party, or just want to create a special event for your group? Contact Marcel anytime (he's always here); in his office at (599-9) 864-9300 or c/o GM Albert Romijn: albert@habitatdiveresorts.com
